A Study on the Stress Exerted -on Abutment Tooth by Insertion or Removal of Partial Denture

Abstract
The 4-Channel Electronic Strain Gauge has been devised and built by the author to measure the stress exerted on abutment tooth by insertion or removal of partial denture. This 4-channel electro¡þnic strain gauge was characterized by dynamic recordings of the stress in four directions (mesial, distal, lateral and vertical direction) ¢¥at the same time. The gauge element was so small in size (D=3 mm L=1 mm) that 4 gauge elements could be set inside of a tooth.
Transistors and diod were used in the circuit and ferrite added for the, purpose of measuring all feasible changes of the stress. This strain gauge was unaffected by temperature and moisture, its scale error extremely minimized, and very simple to manipulate. The maximum stress of lateral direction exerted on abutment tooth (left bicuspid) in Au-Pt alloy Partial Denture was 1.35kg for insertion and 1.36 kg for removal and it was 0.64 kg for insertion and 0. 5 kg for removal in Chrome¡þCobalt alloy Partial Denture.
